SVG → DXF · all POLYLINE · zero SPLINE

SVG to DXF Converter — R12 & R2000, Units Included

Real DXF, not a renamed SVG: all POLYLINE with zero SPLINE entities, units embedded in R2000 so your file opens at the size you drew it. Choose R12 compatibility mode for older CAM.

Proof — in our tests

"Every export is all POLYLINE — zero SPLINE entities — so the file that crashes strict CAM software simply never gets written. Curves are converted to clean polylines at a density you control with the precision slider. Closed paths stay closed."

The problem

SVG speaks web. Your machine speaks DXF.

  • "Design Space, Illustrator and the web live on SVG. LightBurn, AutoCAD and CNC CAM live on DXF."
  • "Naive converters dump SPLINE entities that older CAM chokes on — or lose the units, so your 4-inch design imports at 4 millimeters."
  • "And the online ones want your file uploaded to a server first."
The converter

A converter that respects both formats

  1. Two real DXF flavors.

R2000 (default) embeds units and opens in everything modern. R12 compatibility mode talks to 30-year-old CAM.

  2. All POLYLINE, zero SPLINE.

Curves become clean polylines at a density you set — no surprises in strict software.

  3. Precision slider.

Trade file size for smoothness yourself; see the result before you download.

  4. Runs on your device.

Your SVG never leaves the browser.

Workflow

How to convert SVG to DXF

  1. Drop your SVG.

  2. Pick R2000 (units included) or R12 (older CAM).

  3. Set precision, preview, download.

What you get

What "real DXF" means here

DXF output, cut-ready preprocessing, R12 & R2000 dual export — what free SVG-only tracers don't do.

Entity safety

All POLYLINE

Zero SPLINE entities — the class of file that crashes strict CAM never gets written.

Scale fidelity

Units in R2000

Your 4-inch design imports at 4 inches, not 4 millimeters.

Cut integrity

Closed paths preserved

Closed stays closed through discretization — no open contours to weld by hand.

FAQ
R12 or R2000 — which should I choose?
Keep the default R2000 unless your software rejects it. R2000 embeds units and opens correctly in LightBurn, AutoCAD and everything modern. R12 exists for legacy CAM that only accepts the 1992 format — note that R12 files carry no unit field, so set mm/inch when importing.
Why do some DXF files crash my CAM software?
Usually SPLINE entities — smooth-curve objects many converters emit and strict CAM can't parse. CleanPaths writes all-POLYLINE output, so this class of crash doesn't occur.
Will my DXF open at the right size?
Yes in R2000 mode — units are embedded. In R12 mode, units aren't stored in the format itself; choose the unit when importing.
Does it work with LightBurn?
Yes — all-POLYLINE R2000/R12 output is exactly LightBurn's comfort zone. As with any cut file, run a test cut before production.
What about Glowforge?
Glowforge doesn't accept DXF — it imports SVG or PDF. Use our PNG/JPG converters' cleaned SVG output instead.
My SVG has tiny details — will they survive?
The precision slider controls curve density: higher for smoothness, lower for small files. The preview shows exactly what downloads.
Do you upload or store my SVG?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser — there is no upload step. We never receive, see, or store your images or the files you generate. Close the tab and they're gone; we never had them. This is how the tool is built, not a marketing claim. Details in our Privacy Policy.
